Designed and inspired by the rocks of the Alabama Hills, this spacious unique dwell studio intercepts with the breathtaking views of Mt. Whitney and the Eastern Sierra. Close to Whitney Portal, Horseshoe Meadow, and other famous trails, it’s excellent for day hikes. We are in the epicenter of the lowest (Death Valley) highest (Mount Whitney) and oldest (Bristlecone Pine Forest)
The space feels like a loft with the comfort of a full kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
Private and open with grand sliding doors to take in the majestic views.
An experience that will linger for a long time.
My partner and I stayed for a few days — absolutely beautiful view! We got to do some hiking during the day and stargazing at night, with lots of cooking and grilling to feed ourselves (no microwave, but an ample kitchen with big fridge, good stove and oven, and working toaster oven). The open floor plan means an awesome view, though the lack of solid wall or full curtain near the shower/toilet area does mean you should be pretty comfortable with anyone you stay with here. We enjoyed morning sunrises and espresso, the short drive to the Alabama Hills and the road to Whitney Portal, and the manageable 2 hour drive to Death Valley.
Such a great design, just really neat place. And the view is amazing!
This was not just a place to stay; it’s a destination that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustle of everyday life. It’s a reminder of the beauty that simplicity and nature hold. Each morning was a treat, waking up nestled amidst stunning mountainous scenery, the property offered a perfect blend of modern comfort and rustic charm. Our stay was rejuvenating, and we left with memories we will cherish for a lifetime. A five-star recommendation for anyone looking to recharge amidst nature’s splendor.
There’s not much we can add to the reviews others have posted. It’s about as perfect of a spot as you could hope for. So we’ll add a warning: yes, you can absolutely work from here (strong Wi-Fi for zoom calls, the huge kitchen island makes a good desk) but the urge to get outside and play is overwhelming and we couldn’t resist. Four days wasn’t enough.
Great place to stay! The view was amazing, the place itself was very cozy, and Alabama hills is right up the street, was the perfect location.
Fantastic stay. Stunning property. Clean. Comfortable. Highly recommend.
I realized this was a guest house to the main house that Joost also airbnbs! I love that I can stay at a studio for a small trip and the main house for a family trip. It was a great experience being able to rent both together!
Fantastic studio. We stayed here for a week and loved every minute of it. The view of the mountains to the west through the large glass sliding doors is incredible and the location in the Alabama Hills is very convenient to many trails into the hills and hikes in the mountains. It’s a special place, nothing quite like it.
This was our second time visiting, and this is by far one of our favorite places in the world!
The property is beautiful and peaceful, with unbelievable views of the eastern Sierra. There are two houses on the property and both houses are stunning. Unique, tasteful and functional, they have everything you could ever need. Views through the giant floor-to-ceiling sliding doors (that open ALL the way) are absolutely breathtaking.
Joost is a friendly and accommodating host, and it’s clear that he put a lot of effort, time and love into his properties. 10 stars. Thank you, Joost!
Impeccable stay in a gorgeous, comfortable space with unparalleled views. Joost is a fantastic host and has put so much thought into West Wind. We have been coming to the area for years, always camping, and it was a dream to unwind with everything we needed in such an inspiring location. Thank you Joost, we will be back!
